Man’s skin must be constantly hydrated, nourished, exfoliated, elastic and regenerated.

Hello everyone I am Cristian I have been a barber since 1988 and today we will understand together how our shaving balm is born and how you can use it at home.

A shaving balm must deeply moisturize our beard and the skin under the beard.

Some balms are characterized by the presence of beeswax: an ingredient that gives hold and allows to tame the beard even for a long time. Our shaving balm - Lilly - instead gives up that fixing power, preferring instead the hydration and nutrition of the beard and the skin that is under our beard.

The texture is very creamy and therefore allows a light shaping but at the same time very natural, which instead with a balm based on beeswax we can not guarantee. This choice was a win because it allows our men to use Lilly every day as a moisturizer for the face.

How to use a shaving balm?

A balm is usually applied to the beard, but our balm can be applied to both the beard and skin.

Should the beard be dry or wet?

In our case the beard must be completely dry, precisely because it is not a product that is rinsed at the end, like a normal balm, our balm remains on the beard. So once we have done our action of shaving shampoo, shaping the beard, trimming the beard, we dry our beard and that’s where we go to apply our balm to give definition. The fact that it then remains on the beard, allows the beard to be more hydrated, also protected from atmospheric agents and become softer over time.

How often do I have to use my shaving balm?

Depends ? If I do a job where I am more exposed to heat sources than dusty situations or environments where I have to wash my beard more often, in this case I will use my shaving balm much more often.

If I am a person who is used to staying in a closed environment, in this case my Lilly can be used every day or better every other day.

Consider the fact that our Lilly has a double function since it can be distributed as face cream.

So let’s try to give a synergy to the ritual, to understand in which order the products are used and where I basically have to place my Lilly.

Let’s start with a detoxifying oil, because maybe we have a problem related to the skin, then what is under the beard, we will use our detoxifier in synergy with the shaving shampoo. If our skin is healthy skip the use of detoxifying oil. Emulsify everything, rinse. We apply our shaving balm or a nourishing oil to the step.

When do I decide to use a nourishing shaving oil or shaving balm?

According to my ultimate goal. I dry my beard, apply my Lilly and no longer remove it with any other water-based product. It is there that my Lilly in comparison to the nourishing oil gives me hydration, nourishes my beard but at the same time also gives me a light natural shaping.

Clearly the ultimate goal is defined by the type of beard we are going to operate on. If I have a very consistent beard, a thick beard, a beard already thick, clearly my choice falls in a nourishing oil because of its is already beautiful compact. If on the other hand I have a beard that is not too thick or a beard that needs to be shaped, it is there that I decide instead to use the shaving balm.

I can also use our Lilly on very short beards because as mentioned before it also has a moisturizing function for the skin.
