We hear about it all the time, but maybe it has never been given a clear definition, so here we are, ready to give you all the useful information about it.

What are we talking about? Of the active ingredients, of course!

Assuming that by now you have all learned what a cosmetic is and what it is for (the European Union defines it as “any substance or mixture intended to be applied to the external surfaces of the human body”), let’s now to understand more in detail what are the substances that make them so special and rich.

So the cosmetics consist of one or more active ingredients combined with a substance that acts as a “base” to the whole compound but which in turn is composed of other substances such as, for example, preservatives, emulsifiers, etc. All these substances must be reported on the INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredient), the label that allows you to understand what your cosmetic actually contains.

How many times on tv or in the newspaper have you seen a super advertised product because of its particular active ingredient? Very often, I guess.

So what are the active ingredients?

The active ingredients are those particular ingredients that actively participate in improving the appearance of the surface on which they are applied, be it the skin, be it the hair, the beard and so on.

During the product application, they will look for the best path to act with all their effectiveness and thus be absorbed by the surface chosen for application, bringing particular benefits.

In most cases, a cosmetic does not contain a single active ingredient, but several combined together, to maximize the result.

The range of active ingredients on the market is very wide, but it should be noted that they can be of natural or synthetic origin.

In The Inglorious Mariner line, the active ingredients chosen are all of natural origin.
